About RNID

Empowering deaf people and those with hearing loss for over a century

Our Story & History

RNID has been at the forefront of supporting deaf people and those with hearing loss since our founding. What began as a small organization dedicated to helping those with hearing difficulties has grown into the UK’s leading charity for deaf and hearing-impaired communities.

Throughout our history, we have championed the rights of deaf people, funded groundbreaking research, and provided vital support services to millions. From pioneering the use of hearing loops in public spaces to advocating for BSL recognition, RNID has been instrumental in creating a more inclusive society.

Today, we continue to build on this legacy, combining traditional advocacy with modern technology and research to empower individuals and communities affected by hearing loss.
